Lawyers consider themselves excellent negotiators and persuasive presenters. First impressions can make or break a person’s ability to convince the other side to work with them. How does a lawyer’s demeanor, choice of words and ability to connect during the joint session at mediation impact the outcome? Does it matter? A panel of experienced mediators, mental-health professional,
and attorneys will discuss what is recommended to be successful at mediation and other negotiations, including hearings. This webinar is for lawyers who want to be more effective in achieving the outcome that they would like at mediation, court proceedings and winning-over clients. Through short video re enactments of different styles of opening statements lawyers can see for themselves what works and what is cringe-worthy. Also, a clip of interviews with real participants to mediation will enlighten us as to how the process is interpreted and how the players are perceived.
• What are the best strategies during the joint session?
• Who is a lawyer trying to convince?
• What works and what can be a hindrance?
• The psychology of different approaches to persuasion
Additionally, this presentation will frequently circle back to the professionalism standards,
